Comparing Glyph's

As we start to wind down the end of coursework in my career as an OT student, we were tasked with drawing a glyph self-portrait of a leader.  In drawing the glyph different features represent different characteristics of a leader This is something we did at the very beginning of our schooling as well. When we were finished we were asked to compare and contrast the one we drew just the other day to the one we drew in the first few weeks of school. So here we go:

To begin, my characters were relatively similar and almost identical. Both have square heads meaning leadership stems from nurture over nature. I firmly believe that over time we can learn to be a leader just because we mature, we gain skills, and we have the ability to observe and model our actions after other effective leaders. Both have small eyes meaning there is an equal mix of leaders and non-leaders in the field of OT. After reflecting I wish I could go back and change the small eyes to big eyes meaning the majority of OTs are leaders. In class I think I was thinking of leading as being in a manager type role but in actuality we are all being leaders as we develop plan of cares, interventions and guide our clients to an overall better quality of life. Both had pointed eyebrows representing a more behind the scenes role as a leader. Both had rounded noses meaning that you don't necessarily have to see yourself as being a leader to be a leader. I think this is particularly true when you lead by example because you may not know it but people are looking to you for knowledge and how to go about their life in the right way. Both had freckles as I believe self-awareness is an essential characteristic to leadership. Both had smiling faces as I can think of numerous leaders I have had the pleasure of being around in my life specifically my mom and dad. I cannot think them enough for being leader that I can look up to and model my life after. Both had rounded ears meaning that I believe technology plays a vital role in leadership. Ask me 50 years ago and my answer is probably different but in today's world I think it is essential to at least have some understanding of the way technology works. Both had a mix between curly and straight hair meaning I think creativity and organization are both important aspects to leading. Both also had long hair meaning that introverts do have the ability to lead and I truly do believe this. I also added a hat because I think during my time in OT school I think my ability to want to become a leader has developed and this leads me to my last point. I added my name because I do have a goal of becoming a leader at some point in my OT career. That day is probably not tomorrow but I hope soon I will feel confident enough in my skills to feel comfortable in that position.
